What are octants and sextants?

Octants and sextants are divisions of space used in geometry and navigation. An octant is one of the eight divisions of a three-dimensional space, typically defined by the signs of the coordinates (positive or negative) in a Cartesian coordinate system. A sextant, on the other hand, is a navigational instrument used to measure the angle between two visible objects, primarily for determining latitude and longitude at sea. The term "sextant" can also refer to a sixth of a circle, but in navigation, it’s crucial for celestial navigation.
