How did the Sabre toothed tigers get extincted?

Sabertooth cats have been extinct for 10,000 years. And they were not tigers, only very distant relatives.

The exact causes are debated but loss of habitat is a good guess. Scarcity of prey might be another (humans might have taken lots of animals that the saber-tooth could have eaten)
