What is the theme for the short story before the end of summer?

Bennie is faced with death when his grandmother passes away, she did not know he knew it was coming. However, he overheard the doctor tell her early on, and he was awaiting that day. The theme would be that Bennie has to prepare himself for death and then once his grandma does die, he has to cope with the fact that she is gone.
