What does it mean when someone says to be there eyes and ears?

the person is basically saying tha thtey will be the other's spy. (listening and seeing for them)

IE: You leave the room full of a group of friends you are uneasy about. You ask me to be your eyes and ears, therefore, i would report any gossip said after you have left.
