What is assisted living facilities initially for?

Assisted living facilities provide housing and meals and additional personal services to residents who are usually elderly, disabled or ill. Additional services usually include help with bathing, dressing, transportation, physical therapy, etc. on an as needed basis once or twice a day. The resident also can get medications set up, and reminders to take them as needed. It may be a permanent or temporary living situation, as in the case of someone recovering from an illness, injury or surgery until they can go home and function independently.
