How do you open the hood on a 1996 GMC pickup that has a broken release latch?

make a hook in a 8-10 inch piece of coat hanger or equivalent and in center of hood get as close as you can to latch mechanism and fish for the release cable.Once you hook it pull it as far to you as possible and use plyers if you can fit them in if not use hook and pull hard towards driver side of truck.It's a pain but it will work.
