Moxi is a very good, very underrated DVR - people have not given it enough credit,
Or, you can buy a Moxi, TiVo or various other DVRs at Amazon.com:
Don't forget! If you are willing to dedicate a PC to be a "Media Center" device, also known as a "Home Theater PC" (HTPC) meaning, a PC that will stay in your living room, connected permanently to your TV, then you also can use it as a DVR! (Can also use a laptop instead of a PC).
1) Sit the PC next to your TV where you will be recording from
2) Make sure the PC has an HDMI (hi-definition) output (if not, you can buy a PCI or PCIeXpress HDMI card for the PC (for playing back your recorded shows)
Hook an HDMI cable from your PCs HDMI 'out' to the TVs HDMI 'in'.
3) Hook a direct cable from your cable box or via splitter, to the cable input on the TV tuner card
5) Make sure the PC has at least a 500 GB hard drive or larger, to be able to capture decent High-Definition TV shows and movies.
6) Now you can use either the software that came with the TV tuner card, if present, to record onto the PC, or you can use Windows Media Center's built-in DVR capability to record TV shows and movies to the PCs hard drive.
*) Optionally, you may want to buy a Media Center Remote, to make it easy to control the PC from a distance - or you can buy any a handful of similar remotes for that task.
