Two indivduals should be considered, George Whitfield and Johnathan Edwards. They were given to emotional speeches, but the central core was belief that salvation was better than religious training. The general population thought that it was important to separate Church and State. The old style preachers generally trook a different view in their preachings. The first great awakening took place in the early 1730's and there are four periods in American history. Such events have been caused by Internal or Global disputes such as the War of Independence, The American Civil War, The Great Depression and World War 11. People come together to support a common cause and expresss both their Religious and Political beliefs in support of their own Nation
