Panda cubs are born very small, typically weighing around 3 to 5 ounces (85 to 140 grams), which is about 1/900th of their mother's weight. At birth, they are roughly the size of a cup and are helpless, relying entirely on their mother for warmth and nourishment. As they grow, they gradually increase in size and can weigh around 100 pounds (45 kg) by the time they are one year old, but they remain significantly smaller than their mother throughout their early years.
