How does otter in dragons gate think different about the land of the golden mountain from the beginning to the end?

In the beginning, Otter dreamed of going to the Land of the Golden Mountain (America.) He believed that America was filled with possibilities. Otter was only told half of the truth about America by his uncle and father. He was told that everyone there is equal. When he got to America he realized that the Westerners or Americans were treating the T'Ang (Chinese) men unfairly. Otter learned that only Westerners are equal with Westerners. Otter, his crew, and the other T'Ang men experience many hardships in America.
