Is the story about Cleopatra self in a carpet true?

We can't say for certain if Cleopatra had herself wrapped in a carpet to gain access to Caesar. Some sources say she was wrapped in a carpet, others say she was in a large jug, and yet others say she was in a laundry sack. However, the story is so widespread, that she must have wrapped herself in something to get to Caesar.
