Most insects are primarily attracted by heat, such as that produced by the human body or a light bulb, and are attracted by scent only secondarily. There are a few insects and bugs that are primarily attracted to scents, but the scent is used to find a mate or food, neither of which resembles any odor given off by humans. Most mouthwashes contain alcohol, so, even though the scent of the mouthwash would not be a deterrent, the slight amount of cooling that the alcohol would give might deter one or two insects, but only until the alcohol wears off, which is fairly quickly; in other Words, you'd have to douse yourself with alcohol for a long period of time to be of any use against insects, and, by then, you'd be soaking wet, and probably in pain from the alcohol's burning sensation touching your eyes, lips, etc. You'd be much better off just staying inside.
