What is the earliest that you should for sure hear or see the fetal heartbeat?

I had scan a week back.And at that time i was 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant and the tech showed me the heart beat of the baby.I don't have a scientific answer but i replied based on the experience.I .But it depends on individual.
