As your ring is 10 years old, get it assessed by diamond buyers of a good reputation and following. To begin with approach buyers who have GIA certification and Better Business Bureau ratings. Secondly, keep in mind that an honest buyer will assess your ring for its aesthetic value and desirability and not for its scrap value.
As far as we're concerned it's always the right time to sell a 3.0ct diamond - to us! Bear in mind, though, that people who buy secondhand jewellery do like a bargain! As regards GIA, many reputable jewellers, especially UK, are not GIA certified. The GIA issues certificates on diamonds and any jeweller can buy/sell GIA certifid stones. In the UK, you could also check that they are a Fellow of the Gemological Association - a 2 yr course on the study of all gems.
