There are a ton of rescue groups looking for homes and classifieds like Craigslist but PLEASE read about them, not just the good stuff. They have tame birds too but many have mental health issues like plucking. Most can be worked out withpatience and guidance. It so sad to see that there are so many loving birds that are unloved because they are not as pretty. These birds sat in a cage alone and bored ALL day waiting for their love to come home. This is why they pluck, or one of the many reasons, diet, toxins and cage placement are also associated.
If you want a clean slate and plan on getting a baby look for a bird specialty pet store. PLEASE READ a lot about birds and mental health. African Greys are a HUGE responsibility Always remember they are like a 2yr old with a machete They are smart, maybe a 3 or 4 yr old as far as solving problems but emotionally they are self centered, like a 2yr old. I love big parrots but they are not for the faint of heart
If the person selling the bird starts off with all of the good qualities be WARY If they start with the problems then they are trying to do the right thing and are really looking for a home that can handle a big birds. They should tell you how loud they can be and what they chew and if they bite/nip (who, how hard and how often). If you have a bird you will at some point be bitten, no matter how tame your bird is!! Accidents happen
