Paint is manufactured by making a "base". This is normally white in colour but holds very little pigment at this stage. Manufacturers will then add in a "pigment" or colouring agent. This is a very powerful mixture. Its added with a range of differing colours to make up the required final colour. Its mixed in huge vats and then canned for dispatch. Makers use a universal colour chart called the RAL Chart. Each colour is recorded and the measures of each pigment to make the final colour used this is called the RAL Number
