Adjustable beds are beds with (usually automatic) adjusting action allowing someone sleeping in them to incline or recline portions of the bed for greater comfort and versatility. There are a number of criteria to consider when looking for an adjustable bed. These criteria will help a buyer determine what kind of bed is right for them. Determining the right direction as far as an adjustable bed is concerned is actually quite an important decision, as these beds can be expensive and they will be where their owners are spending a good 1/3 of their lives, possibly for many years to come.
Bed Size
Perhaps the most important consideration is size. This will be determined quite simply by the number of people who will sleep in it and the size of those people. The number will typically be either 1 or 2 (though parents with large families may want king size beds that the whole family can comfortably stretch out on). And person size will of course vary from the size of children to the height and weight or large adults. The basic bed sizes to meet these specifications are single, full, queen and king.
Usually in the case of adjustable beds there are queen sized beds that can be adjusted as an entirety as well as dual (also called split) king and queen sized beds on which each half can be adjusted separately. The latter are perfect for couples or spouses who may not always be at the same level of sleepiness: one can be awake reading or watching TV with the bed in the incline position while the other snoozes peacefully.
Price Range
In a general sense, the bigger the bed the higher the cost, just as one might imagine. Also the amount of added features can affect the price. But just as a general ballpark, single beds tend to range around $1000 to $1500, and king size beds from around $2000 to $4000. The sizes in between fall in the midrange accordingly. It will be fairly hard to base cutting costs on getting a single bed when you really need a queen or king sized one, but at least you can shoot for getting cheaper or more expensive beds in the same size category based on your budget.
Added features
Added features can really turn your adjustable bed into an experience. But they will of course tend to raise the price somewhat. Some of these features include built in massage options, programmable positioning memory, and remote control (wireless).
Buying an adjustable bed means a whole world of comfort that is unfamiliar to simple bed users. These beds can be a great experience and a lot of fun to own. Make sure however that the bed you choose is one that works for you on a number of levels before breaking open that wallet or checkbook.
