The song is actually called 'All I Could Do Was Cry', and was first released in 1960 by singer Etta James.
The song was written specially for her by Chess songwriter Billy Davis, along with Berry & Gwen Cordy. It was said to have been inspired by James's former boyfriend Harvey Fuqua dating Gwen Cordy; Fuqua and Cordy were married the same year that the song was released.
Etta James re-released the song in the early '90s. It was also covered by Beyonce Knowles when she played the lead role in James's biopic Cadillac Records, released lat year.
