How can I start an avocado seed in water?

To start an avocado seed in water, first remove the seed from the avocado fruit. Wash the seed to remove any remaining fruit. Insert three to four toothpicks into the seed, spaced evenly around the middle. Place the seed, pointed end up, in a glass of water so that the bottom inch of the seed is submerged. Change the water every few days and keep the glass in a warm, sunny spot. After a few weeks, roots should start to grow, and eventually, a stem will emerge from the top of the seed.
