The tallest skeleton ever found is that of Robert Wadlow, who reached a height of 8 feet 11.1 inches (2.72 meters). He was known as the “Alton Giant” and lived from 1918 to 1940. Wadlow's extraordinary height was due to an overactive pituitary gland, which resulted in an abnormally high level of growth hormone. His skeleton is displayed at the Robert Wadlow Museum in Alton, Illinois.
