Did Impressionism dealt with the realm of the unconscious distorted images and the inner self?

Impressionism was the use of pure primary color left un-mixed, so as to allow the eyes and brain to blend the image into the impression of what the artist was attempting to express. The subject of the work is usually irrellivent to the manor in which it was painted.
