Who was the patron for Michelangelo's statue of David?

This famous work of art depicts the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion.

It was commissioned by the French Cardinal in Rome to decorate his tomb. But when it was finished it was considered a master piece and moved to The Chapel of the Pieta in the Vatican. I'm sorry but I can't remember the Cardinal's name.
