What does the letter j stand for in a VIN?

The first letter in the Vin number stands for country of manufacture.

First Digit: Identifies country of manufacture

1 = USA (the numbers 4 & 5 also denote the US).

2 = Canada

3 = Mexico

J = Japan

K = Korea
