Why does water based high gloss enamel still feel sticky after three days on wood?

Sounds like you didn't prime it , or possibly didn't stir the paint up from the bottom of the can.

Another reason could be because it was a dark color that was painted in higher humidity, or it was recoated too soon. Either way, you'll have to wait for the paint to dry before attempting to recoat.
