Highwaymen primarily targeted travelers on roads, especially in remote or secluded areas where they could ambush their victims. They often robbed stagecoaches, carriages, and lone travelers, seeking cash, valuables, and sometimes horses. In addition to highways, they occasionally targeted inns or taverns where wealthy patrons were likely to gather. Their activities were most prevalent in the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly in England.
