Why are computers used for the film industry?

Computer's in the film industry these days are very important.

Back in the 70's, film developer's didn't have the special effects they do now and this is because, now, we have more advanced programs and computers to create special effects than they did.

If it is a movie without special effects, film developer's may use computers to edit film or even produce it.
