Why were europeans interested in exploring and settling the America in the 1600and 1700?

Natural Resources.....others were attracted by the rumors of untold riches.........the city of gold....the fountain of youth.... it was mainly though the practice of something called mercantilism..........colonize......produce resources.....then send them back to the homeland.
