The vast majority of "nutritional supplements" are designed to lighten your wallet, and have few if any other effects. Many recent studies have all concluded that people who take a few supplements are neither more nor less healthy than people who take many or none. And the vast majority of medical studies are contradictory and often pointless, and are reported by the press with breathless idiocy.
The bottom line? Eat well but modestly, without following any faddish diets. Highly processed foods are likely to be bad for you. Butter and bacon are not only good, but good FOR you; rice cakes, shredded wheat and sugary carbs are probably "bad" for you, and they won't help you to be thin. (Please note that the USDA's recommended high-carb, low-fat diet has marched along with the plague of obesity. Coincidence? I think not!)
