A coelom is a fluid filled cavity within the mesoderm, it can be seen as the digestive track of an earthworm. Coelomic fluids assist in locomotion and regulation of fluid transfer through the body wall. It can also serve as a temporary food storage, excretion of nitrogen-containing wastes and for maturation of gametes.
