Dentistry is a terminal doctoral degree and requires attendance to a specific professional school.

The requirements for dental school mirror the typical "Pre-med" requirements of Biology, chemistry, physics and math. Instead of the MCAT(Medical College Admissions Test), prospective candidates take the DAT (Dental Admissions Test). One of the key differences in the exams involves a component called Perceptual Ability, that assesses the candidate's ability to visualize a 3 dimensional item from different perspectives.

As a result, college requirements are the typical four year degree, including graduation.

The length of dental school itself is roughly four years. Every institution has a slightly different curriculum, so the breakdown of when/what is taken cannot be consistently applied across the board.
