Beneficial insects, flower parts, and non-toxic nectar and pollen are reasons why milkweed blooms. The plant in question (Asclepias) manages to attract the beloved Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) and the bumble bee (Bomba) as pollinating insects. The result will be blooms throughout the summer.
