Caring for frogs can take a lot of effort for the caretaker. Frogs must be fed and checked on a regular basis. And tank cleanliness is a must to keep the frog healthy.

The type of care for your frog depends on its species. Certain breeds of frogs require special care. Some breeds eat live bugs, some eat dead bugs, others eat small rodents. Generally, small frogs eat bugs and large frogs eat rodents such as mice.

For bug-eating frogs, crickets can be the easiest because you can breed them yourself and are readily available in the wild just about everywhere year-round. Otherwise, flies or just about any other bug that can fit in the frog's mouth will do just fine.

The tank should provide ample room for the frog to move around freely with both land and water to live in. Adding branches and rocks give it areas to "hang out" while at least two inches of water at the bottom can give it enough room to swim. Change the layout of the tank once a month to keep it happy and clean the tank and everything in it and replace with fresh water weekly to keep the frog healthy. Never use soap to clean, always use warm water and scrub with a clean sponge.

Frogs are not foolproof, they will get sick and need veterinary care. Their food costs can mount up, especially if your frog is large, and the tank requires significant work. Owning a frog is not a 'soft' option and you must be prepared to care for it properly before you commit to owning any animal.
