There may be some confusion concerning the name Pyrenees Mountain Dog. The Question is confusing in that the Great Pyrenees (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pyrenees ) is an AKC breed and the Pyrenean Mountain Dog is the British name. (http://www.pmdc.org.uk ).
(GP = Great Pyrenees PMD= Pyrenees Mountain Dog ) basically the same dogs.
Difference in appearance:Height: GP is taller and heavier than the GSD.Body color: GP is basically white GSD is mostly a dark dog unless you are talking about the white GSD

The GSD= much more active/hyper, whines constantly, is much more intellegent and willing to learn commands. loves to be with his owner so much so that he will search out his owner no matter how difficult it is to find him. Can be trained to know who is friend and who is not. May be aggressive towards other dogs. May kill/eat livestock is very mouthy and will fetch and hold objects. Can get out of almost anything, digs under fences or jumps fences. is very athletic.
