When riots occur in the UK, special tactical officers are brought in to deal with public disorder on a large scale. These officers are specially trained in dealing with dangerous situations, carrying out warrants on properties, dispersing large mobs of people, and using extra force to detain dangerous criminals. Lots of preparation and practise is put into training to make sure officers are ready for anything that the country throws at them. The 2011 August riots were a clear example of the huge number of Tactical officers brought in to stop the looting and rioting. Tactical officers are often seen in vans marked with a square signifying 'Tactical Aid Unit'. Often with windscreen shields, these vans can carry up to a dozen officers safely and securely, while they can put their riot gear on before arriving at the emergency. This lowers the time of officers arriving at the situation. Normal Police Officers are often not trained to this standard.
