Why do you need a circular towers that would have nursing units on each floor with the nursing desk in the middle?

In theory a round or tower shaped unit with a centrally located nursing station would allow the nurses to see the entire unit a any given time and also allows the nurse fewer steps back and forth (as opposed to to up and down one long corridor).
