The general agreement among historians and other commentators is that the Treaty of Versailles only poorly addressed the causes of World War I and even more poorly attempted to resolve them. In its harsh treatment of Germany, including pinning blame for the conflict upon it, the Treaty sowed the seeds of resentment that would later burst forth in Nazi vengeance -- and another world war.
