Where is the plug to get code for check engine light 1998 vw cabrio?

To the right of the rear window defroster button, behind a plastic cover. Just pop it off with a flat head screw driver.

On my 1998 Cabrio, I found it to the right of the ash tray. Remove ash tray then slide the cover to the immediate right of the ash tray to the left to reveal the OBDII connector.
