Escort motorcycle lights depend on two main factors:

1. What is being escorted?

2. What is the STATE / COUNTY / LOCAL law for the escort type above.

For the two common types of escorts there are two answers: Remember, each state has their own laws.

For non-funeral escorts of vehicles requiring an escort (oversize / wide load / etc) ORANGE is the color required by most state laws (and may be a federal DOT regulation).

For funeral processions some states require purple, some green. In Tennessee a motorcycle escort is required to have GREEN. (See TCA 55-8-183).

Additionally, to have beacon / strobe / flashing lights on your vechicle or motorcycle you may be required to be an employee of a licensed contract security company or licensed and bonded contracted security professional. In TENNESSEE this is not a requirement for persons that only do funeral escorts. (See Opinion No. 02-123 TN Attorney Gerneral Office).
