one colloquial term for a tea drinker which came about in the United States is "teatotaler", sometimes spelled "teetotaler". a person who refused to drink alcohol was practicing "total abstinence with a capital T", which then got shortened to "T-total abstinence". those who practiced this were known as "T-totalers", or "tee-totalers". The spelling was later changed to "teatotaler", most likely from the assumption that these individuals drank tea rather than indulging in alcohol.
