Why won't 1977 CB550 stay running after it gets hot but if you let it set overnight it will start up again battery even goes dead but is charged overnight any ideas?

Just a thought. When it is running, check the volts on the battery with a voltmeter. Should be around 14 volts. If it is around 12. something. Then stator is not working.
