Certain substances used to be considered vitamins, but no longer are either because they are no longer considered essential, because they can be synthesized within the body in sufficient quantities or because they are essential only for organisms other than humans. Hence the missing numbers - there are substances with those numbers, but they aren't technically vitamins.
