The simple answer is NO.

The long answer follows. The human body requires 20 amino acids (the building blocks of protein) in order to function. Most of these can be made by the body, however, there are 8 amino acids that can not be made by the body. You must eat these 8 amino acids in your diet or your health will suffer. In general getting these proteins is not a problem, unless you are vegetarian. Most protein supplements are marketed to body builders. In order to bulk up muscle the body must be supplied with lots of protein.

If someone uses a protein supplement and they do not work out hard at the gym then the body will not build muscle. Instead the body will convert the protein into fatty acids, ketone bodies or glucose. In other Words, work out at the gym or the protein ends up adding to your fat reserves.

What is the long answer short? If you are fat then eat small healthy meals and exercise. This will help you lose weight and get you the proteins (meat, dairy, beans & lentils) you need. To help lose weight exercise on an empty stomach. This will force your body to consume the fat instead of what you just ate. Remember to drink lots of water.
