Kim Campbell became the Prime Minister of Canada on June 25, 1993, taking over from Brian Mulroney. She was the first woman to hold this position in Canadian history. Campbell served as the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party and had previously been the Minister of National Defence and Minister of Justice in Mulroney's cabinet.
