The firing order for the 1985 Nissan 720 Pickup with the Z24 2.4 Liter engine is as follows: 1E-4I-3E-2I-4E-1I-2E-3I counter-clockwise
E=Exhaust Side (driver's Side of engine)
I=Intake Side When looking at the distributor cap from the driver's side, 1E should be one spot to the right (counter-clockwise) from the 3I spot. #i is Bottom-Dead-Center. The "firing order" is something completely different that the order of the wires coming out of the distributor. The firing order is 1-3-4-2. The intake side spark plug and the exhaust side spark plug fire at the same time (when they are both enabled). The rotor has two separate circuits, arranged about 180 degrees opposite from each other so that both spark plugs in each cylinder fire at the same time, even though the wires are on almost opposite sides of the distributor. If you look at the order of the wires on the distributor (shown above), skipping every other wire, you can see that both the input and the exhaust plugs follow the 1-3-4-2 order (for the intake plugs, start at 1 then wrap around to the beginning). The offset in the two separate rotor circuits ensures that they fire at the same time.
