Why is technology a bane?

Last time someone used the Word 'bane' they were having problems. Technology used responsibly is a blessing not a bane.

Be aware that this and similar sentiments can be used to lure ordinary people into a position that 'something needs to be done' and that they should 'listen to' (obey) the speaker, and others like them. Some politics depend heavily on that position.
