Hi,
I am not an expert on the matter but can offer some information. The value of the silver content on any given day is based upon the market price of silver; can fluctuate daily. The percentage of silver in sterling silver is .925. Conveniently, the number 925 is frequently used to hallmark sterling silver. FYI, pure silver is generally described as .999. For something like a ring, you would have find out the weight of the ring, most likely in grams, multiply it by the market price for a gram silver and multiply it again by .925 to determine the value of the actual silver content. Market prices for silver are customarily quoted troy ounces; 1 troy ounce =31.1 grams.
Of course, the value of a ring is determined by more than the value of the raw materials that make up it's construction. Comparing prices for similar items in the market place to get a sense of the going rates is a good idea.
