A vaquita typically gives birth to one calf at a time. The gestation period for a vaquita is about 10 to 11 months, after which the mother usually nurses the calf for around six months to a year. This reproductive strategy, combined with their low population numbers, makes their recovery from endangerment particularly challenging.
