Benicio del Toro won the 2000 Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor for his performance as a conscientious Mexican police officer in "Traffic." He became the third Puerto Rican to win an Oscar after Jose Ferrer (Best Actor of 1950 for "Cyrano de Bergerac") and Rita Moreno (Best Supporting Actress of 1961 for "West Side Story").
