Pinarello began moving away from Columbus tubing in the early 1990s as they transitioned to using more advanced materials and technologies, such as the introduction of their own proprietary carbon fiber frames. While they had previously utilized Columbus steel tubing for many of their iconic models, the shift towards carbon marked a significant change in the brand’s approach to bike design and performance. By the late 1990s, most of their production had shifted to carbon fiber.
