During the 1939-45 war the children in England would go to the cinema (Pictures) each Saturday afternoon. We would watch a Serial, usually a cowboy movie which would last half an hour ending with the hero in some sort of trouble. We would have to wait until the next Saturday to find out just what happened. After the serial we would usually watch a comedy, perhaps Abbot and Costello, Laural and Hardy or Charley Chaplin. It might even be another full length cowboy such as Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy or Tom Mix. Then there was Flash Gordon or Tarzan. At the start of the war it cost two pennies, then six pennies to get in. But it was all fun and we did not mind earning our picture money by running erronds for the neighbors.
